There were two main keynotes at 7th Queering Paradigms Conference, which took place at the Auditorium of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce.
The keynote speakers were the Rt. Rvd. Dr. Alan Wilson, Bishop of Buckingham and Prof.emeritus Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni, Justice of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
Short introductory keynotes by Prof. Bee Scherer and Dr. Leonardo Raznovich, both from INCISE, Canterbury Christ Church University.
The talks were filmed and edited by Jonathan Hunt.
The conference looks amazing. I’m very impressed by the press it received. But why are the keynote speakers all Cis-male? In fact, this whole conference seems rather male-dominated. Just my observation (but noting that I didn’t attend).
Presenters: 8 female (incl 1 trans); 9 male
Keynoters: 3 cis male, 1 trans female/non-binary incl. the primary organisers
Choice of the two non-organising keynoters: necessitated by the focus of the conference for LGBT rights debates and awareness change in the Caribbean/Cayman addressing a conservative legal (Zaffaroni) and Christian (Wilson) environment: i.e. queer pragmatics.
BTW QP6 had all female keynoters.
Where good things are still happening in generally hostile neo-liberal academic contexts we should celebrate them.
How about joining us again soon and getting involved? ❤
